Building Bridges: U.S. Women’s Amputee Soccer Team Honored at WPSL Championship

ree

The U.S. Women's Amputee Soccer Team recently had the honor of being invited to the championship match of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) in Stillwater, Oklahoma. We were welcomed with open arms and hearts, and the outpouring of support left a lasting impression. This kind gesture was fueled by the recognition of our second-place finish at the 2024 World Cup, and we were thrilled to be honored during halftime of the championship match.

This incredible opportunity turned into much more than just a celebration. It became an unforgettable training camp experience for our team. Thanks to the support of the American Amputee Soccer Association (AASA), we were able to transform this event into a training camp for our national team. Despite the scorching heat, the players put in the hard work, pushing through the conditions to improve their skills with small-group coaching sessions. The camp provided invaluable experience, and it truly became one of my favorite camps to date.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the amazing women behind the WPSL's Female Leadership team: Kendra Halterman, Lindsay Eversmeyer, Gretchen Hammel, Nichole Singleton, Alex Simpson, and Jaclyn Purvine. Their commitment to promoting amputee soccer went beyond just organizing the camp. They even joined us on the field, trying their hand at playing on crutches. Their dedication to spreading awareness and supporting our sport was nothing short of inspiring, and we couldn’t have asked for better partners in this endeavor.

We also want to congratulate Sporting CT Women on their championship win. Their skill, team chemistry, and determination were truly inspiring, and they’ve earned a new group of dedicated fans who will continue to cheer them on in the future.

Finally, a special thank you to Oklahoma State University for hosting our training camp. The facilities and fields were top-notch, and we were fortunate to have the opportunity to experience such an immaculate venue. #GoPokes!

This experience was a reminder of the powerful community that surrounds amputee soccer and the immense support from everyone involved. We leave Oklahoma feeling motivated and ready to continue our journey toward greater success.
