In Loving Memory of Melissa Kendall: Trailblazer, Teammate, and Inspiration

The American Amputee Soccer Association family mourns the profound loss of one of our true pioneers, Melissa Kendall. A fiercely dedicated athlete, an inspiring teammate, and a trailblazer for women’s adaptive sports, Melissa left an indelible mark on the pitch and across our entire community.

Making History on the Pitch
Melissa was an integral member of the first-ever U.S. Women’s Amputee Soccer National Team. She helped make history when she took the field in Poland for the sport’s first official international women’s match. Every time she put on the jersey, Melissa played with relentless grit and energy, proving that athleticism knows no boundaries.
Beyond her competitive drive, Melissa brought pure joy and infectious warmth to the sidelines. She lifted up everyone around her, reminding her teammates and supporters why we play the game.
A Courageous Journey
Melissa’s courage extended far beyond athletics. Diagnosed with Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma in July 2022, she faced her health battles with extraordinary resilience. Following a life-saving amputation in late 2022 and extensive treatment, Melissa and her husband, celebrated a hard-won period of remission: welcoming their beloved daughter, into the world in October 2024.
Throughout her journey, Melissa demonstrated unwavering grace, strength, and faith. Her resilience served as a beacon of hope to the adaptive soccer community and everyone fortunate enough to witness her journey.
Honoring Her Legacy and Supporting the Kendall Family
Our hearts, thoughts, and deepest prayers go out to her husband, Jay, their daughter, Kaylee, and their extended family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Melissa’s legacy will continue to live on in every young woman who picks up a pair of crutches and steps onto the pitch, inspired by the path she helped forge.
