U.S. Soccer Awards $200K Grant to Boost Amputee Soccer Nationwide

The American Amputee Soccer Association (AASA) just scored a major win off the field. The organization has been awarded a $200,000 Innovate to Grow grant from U.S. Soccer, a three-year investment aimed at expanding and professionalizing amputee soccer nationwide.

This funding marks a pivotal moment for the sport, giving AASA the resources to develop more athletes, strengthen programs across the country, and create lasting opportunities for adaptive players of all ages and abilities.

Four Key Areas of Growth

The grant will fuel AASA’s mission through four strategic initiatives:

1. Regional Development & Player Pathways: AASA will establish and strengthen regional programs, providing new players with introductory equipment and support while building a sustainable competitive structure. A centerpiece of this effort is the U.S. Amp Cup, the official national championship for amputee soccer in America.

2. Community Outreach & Awareness: From local clinics to national conferences, AASA will bring the sport to more people through travel, outreach, and hands-on events. The goal: introduce amputee soccer to new athletes, connect with communities, and grow the organization’s footprint nationwide.

3. Referee Development Program: The grant will also support a new referee training initiative, offering in-person education to ensure matches are officiated at the highest standard — a key step in elevating the quality and professionalism of the game.

4. Coaching Education & Community Alignment: AASA will launch a coaching education program designed to train coaches who truly reflect the communities they serve. This ensures the sport’s growth remains inclusive, equitable, and athlete-focused.
