The U.S. Men's National Team Set to Compete in First-Ever Amputee Football Tournament in Guatemala

The American Amputee Soccer Association (AASA) is thrilled to announce that Team USA will travel to Guatemala on August 27 to compete in a historic adapted sports event: the First International Friendly Football Tournament for Amputees in Guatemala, themed "TOGETHER WE OVERCOME BARRIERS."
Hosted by the Guatemalan Amputee Football Association (AGUAFA) in collaboration with the World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF), the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and the Municipality of Mixco, this tournament marks a major milestone for adapted sports in Central America. It brings nations together to foster strategic alliances, champion inclusion, and showcase world-class athletic talent.
The Competition Setup
The United States will join four other national teams in Mixco, Guatemala:
Guatemala (Host)
Costa Rica
El Salvador
Honduras
The event officially begins on August 27 with an opening dinner, mini-congress, and a live draw ceremony to finalize the match schedule.
Matches will follow official WAFF Rules of the Game across a fast-paced three-day schedule:
August 28 (Day 1): Opening ceremony followed by the opening round of group stage matches.
August 29 (Day 2): Group play continues, with each nation completing four total matches across the first two days.
August 30 (Day 3): Championship Day. The top four point-earning teams advance to the medal round; third and fourth place compete for the bronze medal, while the top two squads battle for the tournament title.
More Than Just a Tournament
The tournament theme, "Together We Overcome Barriers," is woven throughout the entire event. To celebrate inclusion and inspire the next generation, local children with disabilities have been invited to lead the pre-game ceremonies, carrying the flags of each participating nation onto the pitch.
Beyond the pitch, the host committee has organized cultural exchange activities and a community tourist route on August 30. This provides athletes an opportunity to build international camaraderie and experience Guatemala's rich heritage.
