New England Set to Host Inaugural Amputee Soccer Open Cup

History is being made in New England this April. As the world gears up for a massive year in soccer, the New England Amputee Soccer Association (NEASA), in partnership with the United Adaptive Soccer Association (UASA) and the American Amputee Soccer Association (AASA), is proud to announce the first ever Amputee Soccer Open Cup.
Taking place on Friday, April 24, and Saturday, April 25, at SBLI Fields at Progin Park, this landmark event will bring together more than 35 elite athletes from across 17 states.
More Than Just a Tournament
While the competition on the pitch will be fierce, the New England Open Cup serves a much larger purpose. It is designed to "build backwards" from our flagship national tournament, the U.S. Amputee Soccer Cup (returning to New York this summer). By establishing this regional Open Cup format, we are strengthening the national player pipeline and creating more consistent opportunities for athletes to compete at a high level.
In a unique twist, players are placed individually to ensure balanced competition. This allows athletes from different regions to team up, build community, and sharpen their skills ahead of the national cup later this year.
Leading the Way
The event is spearheaded by Nico Calabria, founder of NEASA and captain of the U.S. Men’s National Team. For Nico, this tournament is about accessibility and visibility. "It’s a tournament for everyone," Calabria noted. "It’s the fastest game on one leg. You have to see it to believe it, and we’d love people to come check it out."
Building the Future of Coaching
In addition to the matches, the weekend features a national level coaching education course led by U.S. Soccer Federation educator Marc Burkom. This program is specifically designed to develop leaders with lived experience in disability sport, ensuring the next generation of coaches and mentors comes from within the community itself.
Join Us on the Sidelines
The weekend isn't just for the pros. On Saturday, April 25, we will host a pan disability soccer clinic open to the public. This clinic connects various disciplines, including cerebral palsy soccer, TOPSoccer, and youth development, inviting everyone to get involved.
Match Highlights:
Friday, April 24: Matches begin at 2:00 PM ET, featuring teams like AFC Schwein Time and The Gav-Engers FC.
Saturday, April 25: Group play continues at 10:00 AM ET, followed by the Pan Disability Clinic at 12:00 PM ET and Championship matches starting at 1:00 PM ET.
