Inaugural Women’s Amputee Soccer World Cup: A New Era in Women's Sports
From November 4th to 11th, 2024, the city of Barranquilla, Colombia, will host the inaugural Women’s Amputee Soccer World Cup—a groundbreaking milestone for both women’s sports and the world of amputee soccer. This long-awaited event will see 10 teams from across the globe compete for the first-ever title in the sport, including Colombia, Brazil, Poland, Peru, Haiti, England, Kenya, Ecuador, USA and Ukraine.
A Dream Realized
Just a few years ago, the idea of a Women’s Amputee Soccer World Cup was only a distant dream. The sport has grown rapidly since May 2023, when the first-ever U.S. women's amputee soccer camp was held with only four participants. That sparked a movement, leading to the creation of the U.S. Women's National Amputee Soccer Team and their first official international match against Poland in September 2023.
Group C: USA's Journey
The U.S. Women’s Amputee Soccer Team has been placed in Group C alongside Ecuador, Ukraine, and Nigeria. They have fundraised over $100,000 to make this journey possible, a testament to the support and determination behind their mission. As they prepare to face fierce competition on the world stage, the team is fueled by the incredible momentum that has carried them through these formative months.
