Qualified Nations Confirmed for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Costa Rica

The stage is officially set for one of the biggest global events in adaptive sports. The World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF) has confirmed the full list of nations that will compete in the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup, hosted in beautiful Costa Rica.


With teams representing every region of the world, this year’s tournament promises to be one of the most competitive and inspiring editions yet. From powerhouse programs in Europe to rising teams across Africa, Asia, and the Americas, amputee football continues to expand its global reach and showcase world-class talent.

North & Central America: The Host Region Steps Forward

Representing the host region, three nations will take the field:

  • Costa Rica (Host Country)

  • Mexico

  • United States

For the U.S. Amputee Soccer Team, this marks another step in the program’s ongoing rise. With strong performances in recent tournaments and increasing national support, Team USA aims to make a significant impact in 2026. Team USA qualified for the World Cup at the 2025 Gold Cup.

Africa Leads With Seven Qualified Nations

Africa will send a strong lineup of seven countries, each known for passionate fans and deeply skilled squads:

  • Ghana

  • Morocco

  • Algeria

  • Nigeria

  • Angola

  • Liberia

  • Egypt

Several of these nations—especially Angola, Ghana, and Nigeria—have built reputations as perennial contenders on the world stage. Their presence adds incredible energy and intensity to the tournament.


Europe Sends Traditional Football Giants

Europe remains one of the most competitive regions in amputee football, and their qualifiers reflect that:

  • Turkey

  • Spain

  • Poland

  • England

  • Italy

  • Ireland

  • Germany

With a mix of historic programs and fast-growing teams, Europe is expected to deliver some of the tournament’s most tactical and high-energy matches.


South America Brings Elite Skill and Passion

South America is known for flair, technical ability, and vibrant fan culture. Three teams will represent the region:

  • Brazil

  • Uruguay

  • Colombia

Brazil remains one of the world’s premier amputee football nations, bringing powerhouse energy and world-class skill to every tournament.


Asia Sends Four Competitive Teams

Asia’s presence on the world stage continues to grow, led by four nations:

  • Iran

  • Uzbekistan

  • Japan

  • Iraq

These teams have shown rapid development, strategic growth, and a deep commitment to advancing the sport globally.


A True Global Celebration of the Sport

The 2026 Amputee Football World Cup will unite 24 nations across five continents, creating a powerful showcase of resilience, teamwork, and international community. This tournament will not only highlight elite competition, but also uplift the athletes and programs that continue pushing amputee football forward.
