Fox 43 Spotlights AASA Rising Star Liam Fanning

The American Amputee Soccer Association (AASA) is proud to announce that our athlete, 14-year-old Liam Fanning, was recently featured by Fox News, where he provided a moving account of his continued passion for soccer following his amputation.

In 2018, Liam was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in his knee, a bone cancer that typically affects young people. The then-7-year-old began chemo treatment at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he and his family were told Liam's leg would have to be amputated to prevent the cancer from spreading.
"I was pretty young. Doctors started putting stuff on my leg. I started to realize it was serious. The first thing I thought was, 'When am I gonna get back on the [soccer] field and do what I love?'" recalled Liam. "I never thought I'd actually play soccer again."
